Photo of egg cracks world record for Instagram likes

People are scrambling to figure out who is behind an Instagram account that has surpassed all eggspectations by amassing the most likes in the app’s history.

Kylie Jenner, the reigning queen of Instagram likes has been beaten by — and this will crack you up — a humble, brown egg.

The account, called world_record_egg, with a single post and a singular goal, posted the photo on Jan 4. The caption reads “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this.”

The photo has garnered over 37 million likes in just 10 days — quickly closing in on doubling Jenner’s record of 18 million likes.

Instagram has also officially verified the account, giving it the blue tick of authenticity and the account has already spawned many imitators — perhaps the truest mark of Instagram stardom.

Kylie Jenner’s photo announcing the birth of her daughter was the previous record holder. The social media superstar responded to the poaching of her title with a video where she tries to fry an egg on a hot sidewalk. The caption reads “Take that little egg”

“This is madness. What a time to be alive,” said the account owner on Instagram stories, thanking followers for their support. They also promised more from #EggGang soon, saying “we’re only just getting started.”

So far, the account says Egg Gang merchandise is on its way for its loyal brood.

However, the account may be in for some stiff competition as Ellen DeGeneres has taken note, posting what she believes will surely break the newly set record — and egg + Kylie combo photo.

Ellen has set a lofty goal of 51 million likes for her photo, confident the title will be handed over easy.
